About the Multfilin Street Animation Festival

#believeinanimation
Hello! My name is Anna, Founder and Director of the Multfilin Street Animation Festival (www.cartoonfest.mobi).

The Multfilin Street Animation Festival is an international creative project for children and teenagers aged 4 to 18, dedicated to the development of animation and the support of young creators.

The festival brings together participants from different regions and countries, giving everyone the chance to create their own animated film using whatever is available – a smartphone, some clay, paper, fabric, or anything else within reach.

The idea at the heart of the project is straightforward: animation is for everyone. A regular smartphone can be so much more than a device for games and social media – it can be a fully creative studio, one where your own stories come to life.

Aim of the festival

The main goal of the project – to develop creative potential in children and teenagers, promote animation as an art form, and encourage visual thinking through accessible technologies.
Project history

MultFilin started in the summer of 2020 in Moscow as an experiment: can you actually make an animated film on a smartphone? Turns out, you can. The very first season brought in over a hundred entries – claymation stories, cut-out animation made from paper and fabric, hand-drawn films, stories about sport, local traditions, and family history.

The idea caught on fast. Parents, teachers, and kids all responded. Over the following years the project grew into an open international platform for young animators. Between 2020 and 2025, more than 4,000 participants from over 10 countries took part. And every season proves the same thing: you don't need a professional studio to make animation – just a smartphone and a story you want to tell.

Participation and jury

Anyone aged 4 to 18 can enter – solo, with their family, or as part of a studio. All entries are reviewed and scored by industry professionals: animators from leading Russian studios, faculty members from specialist film and animation programmes, independent directors, and documentary filmmakers. Over the years, the jury has included representatives of Soyuzmultfilm, VGIK – the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography, one of Russia's oldest and most respected film schools – as well as studios Parovoz, Shar, and Sharovaya Melnitsa.

An Open Platform

MultFilin is more than a competition – it's a growing community of young animators from around the world. We help children and teenagers develop their creativity, find like-minded peers, and take their first real steps in the profession. If this resonates with you, we'd love to talk about partnership and collaboration.
